This meditation was developed by Atisha, a Buddhist Tantric master from Tibet. It is the quintessence of all Tantric meditations, working with the heart principle, which transforms everything into love. This slow breathing technique is very calming for the nervous system, and relaxes and releases anxiety.
This meditation, number 16 from the 112 meditations in the ancient Indian scripts of the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra, is a meditation to connect with the qualities of the heart: self-compassion, compassion, empathy and trust.
This meditation helps us to experience awareness of our thoughts and feelings without getting carried away by them. It helps us to witness ourselves without labeling our thoughts and feelings as good or bad, right or wrong.
Mindfulness is a mental state where we respond with awareness about what is happening, instead of avoiding our feelings or simply reacting instinctively.
This allows us to experience situations from our essence, instead of from our personality or “learned” reactions. It is a way of experiencing life for what it truly is.
“You are the sky. Everything else is just the weather.” – Pema Chödrön
“This moment of gratitude is a moment of enlightenment, of mindfulness, of intelligence. It is a manifestation from the depths of your consciousness.” Thich Nhat Hanh
The practice of a gratitude meditation can lead to a greater sense of well-being, improved sleep quality and helps with post-traumatic stress.
Expressing and sharing our gratitude and appreciation for what life has given us is especially important in these times when humanity is facing immense challenges. This meditation practice will give you strength and resilience to cope with the problems you face.
“Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.” ―
